The World Cup committee and the IQA Gameplay department is pleased to announce the group draw will take place on June, 7th at 1:30 GMT and the gameplay format for the biggest world cup in the quadball history.
PHASE ONE: Pool play
There will be 3 pools of five teams and 4 pools of four teams. Pools A-C will have five teams, and pools D-G will have four teams. The pools A-C will play a round robin, whilst pools D-G will play a round robin against the team of their complimentary pool (D vs E, F vs G)
At the end of pool play all teams will be ranked 1-31 based on the four games they played. The tiebreakers will be:
PHASE TWO
Teams will then play a knockout round, with the team ranked 1st having a round off. The team ranked 2nd will play the team ranked 31st, the team ranked 3rd will play the team ranked 30th, etc.
The winning teams from each game will proceed to a round of 16, and the losing teams will proceed to the consolation games. The team ranked 1st in pool play will join the round of 16.
The winners in the round of 16 will then move onto the championship bracket.
PHASE THREE
Championship bracket
The championship bracket will be elimination rounds that will consist of:
- Quarter finals
- Semi finals
- 3rd place play off
- Grand final
Consolation games
There will be consolation games for the remaining 24 teams to determine the rankings 9-32.
Seeding
There will be 5 pods to determine the pools for pool play. Teams have been ranked according to their Elo rankings. Teams without an Elo ranking are placed in seed 5.
Group Draw
The group draw will start by drawing from pod 1 for pool A, and each pool will be drawn consecutively (pool B, then pool C etc) until each team in pod 1 is drawn. Once every team in a pod has been allocated a pool we will move onto the next pod, and the process will repeat until all teams have been allocated a pool.
Teams in pod 1 will be allocated to the pools A-C and the teams from pod 2 will be allocated pools D-G to avoid the top 3 teams crossing paths.
